Advice for removing dust mites.

The standard advice is to:

• Wash bedding and soft upholstery covers at 60o or above. Washing at lower temperatures will remove the dust mite droppings but will not kill the mites themselves
• If you have children, wash soft toys at 60o too. If this is not possible, pop them in the freezer for 12 hours to kill the mites before washing at a lower temperature.
• Damp wipe all surfaces at least weekly. Dry dusting just moves the dust around rather than removing it.
• Vacuum carpets, rugs and soft furnishings regularly with a high filtration vacuum cleaner (HEPA filter, S-class filter or similar)
• Cover your mattresses, duvets and pillows with an allergen proof barrier.
• Reduce humidity by increasing ventilation. Open your windows, use extractor fans in the bathroom and kitchen. Where necessary use a dehumidifier to keep indoor humidity under 50% (but over 30%)
